Chicago Sky rookie Angel Reese broke an impressive single-season WNBA record during their road game against the Minnesota Lynx on Sunday afternoon.

Angel Reese entered Sunday’s contest with 399 rebounds on the season, needing just five to tie and six to break the record set by Sylvia Fowles in 2018. By the end of the first half, Reese had eight to break the new single-season record.

Reese logged her 405th rebound with just over four minutes remaining in the second quarter after a missed shot by Minnesota’s Myisha Hines-Allen:

It’s only fitting that Angel Reese broke the record in Minnesota, as Fowles was on the Lynx in 2018 when she set a new historic mark. The year prior, Jonquel Jones of broke the record as a member of the Connecticut Sun.

Fowles, Jones and Reese are the only players in WNBA history to record at least 400 rebounds in a single season. Tina Charles came awfully close in 2010 with 398, and Connecticut’s Alyssa Thomas finished with 394 a year earlier.

Coming into Sunday, the Sky had lost five games in a row. That included an ugly 100-81 loss against likely WNBA Rookie of the Year Caitlin Clark and the surging Indiana Fever on Friday.

Regardless of how the rest of the season plays out for Chicago, Reese has at least placed herself in the WNBA history books. Congratulations to the rookie on setting a remarkable WNBA record.

Angel Reese Is Trying To Rally Chicago Into The Playoffs

Chicago had a comfortable lead on the ninth-seeded Atlanta Dream for the eighth and final playoff spot. But the five-game losing streak has jeopardized Chicago’s playoff hopes, as they came into today just one game up on Atlanta.

Even the Dallas Wings (9-22) are on Chicago’s tails and just two games out of the final playoff spot, with the Washington Mystics (9-23) also in the mix.

Reese has done her part in keeping Chicago in playoff contention. Her teammates must step up over the final stretch.
