Former Michigan State linebacker Adam Decker has passed away at the age of 37. Decker’s death was announced Tuesday morning, leaving the Spartans football program in mourning.

Adam Decker, a true embodiment of Spartan spirit, was known for his work ethic, selflessness, and tough yet loving nature. These qualities were evident both on and off the field, leaving a lasting impact on those who knew him.
Hailing from Rochester Hills, Michigan, Decker excelled at Brother Rice High School under the guidance of renowned coach Al Fracassa, earning all-state recognition as both a linebacker and tight end. His dedication and talent led him to Michigan State, where he became a defensive stalwart.
Decker’s legacy was cemented during a memorable 2008 Homecoming game against Iowa, where his game-winning tackle on fourth down against All-American running back Shonn Green secured victory for the Spartans. That season, he recorded 56 tackles, contributing significantly to the team’s 9-4 record and Capital One Bowl appearance.
Decker’s commitment to excellence extended beyond the gridiron. He was a three-time Academic All-Big Ten honoree and graduated with a finance degree in 2009.
Furthermore, he actively gave back to the community, supporting initiatives like the Heroes for Kids golf outing, which benefited youth programs in Saginaw, Michigan. Adam Decker’s legacy will forever be intertwined with Spartan football.
