Football fans are teeing off on Cris Collinsworth for making something up during the Dallas Cowboys–San Francisco 49ers “Sunday Night Football” game.
Cris Collinsworth and Mike Tirico were on the call for the marquee showdown between the two longtime NFC rivals tonight. But during the first half, Collinsworth made headlines for all the wrong reasons.
Collinsworth was praising 49ers quarterback Brock Purdy for hanging in the pocket and completing a pass to rookie wide receiver Ricky Pearsall. Collinsworth stated that Purdy was “gonna get drilled on this one…knew he was gonna get hit” on the play.
But as you can see on the replay, Purdy wasn’t hit on the play at all:
“What a great play by Purdy on this one. He is gonna get drilled on this one… Purdy has just hung in there. He saw it coming, he knew he was gonna get hit.” – Cris Collinsworth on Brock Purdy, who does not appear to have been touched on the play pic.twitter.com/eOtAy9M8Zo

Social media wasted no time destroying Cris Collinsworth for wrongfully stating that Purdy got hit on the play:
Weak. Guy was literally running directly at Purdy.

Is Collinsworth losing his mind? Saying Purdy gets drilled on a throw he didn’t even get touched

Collinsworth: “Purdy stood in there and got drilled”
Relay: Guy fell at Purdys feet lol

@Jeff_Mans did i just hear Collinsworth talk about how Purdy was going to take a shot and went untouched on that throw to Pearsall? You’d have thought Brock got his head taken off

Collinsworth; “What a great play by Purdy… he’s going to get drilled on this one… he saw it coming, he knew he was gonna get hit…”. Needless to say, no one touched him. #TiricoCollinsworthIncompetentIdiots

Yeah, not Cris Collinsworth’s finest moment of NFL analysis. Unless he meant Pearsall and not Purdy on that play?
