Mike Tyson Reveals Why He Kept Biting His Glove During Fight With Jake Paul

Jake Paul secured a unanimous-decision victory over Mike Tyson in their Friday night (November 15) showdown, a groundbreaking Netflix event. However, an unusual habit Tyson displayed during the fight quickly became a talking point.

The match, which consisted of eight two-minute rounds, saw Paul overpowering the 58-year-old boxing legend as it progressed. While Tyson showed early energy in the first rounds, Paul gained momentum and ultimately landed significantly more punches, dominating the latter half of the fight.

Amid the action, fans and commentators noticed Tyson repeatedly touching or biting his gloves, sparking curiosity. The behavior was odd enough for a reporter to address it post-fight.

“Was it a mouthpiece issue, or were you just biting on your glove?” the announcer asked.

Tyson replied candidly: “I have a habit of biting my glove.”

When pressed further with a simple “Why?” Tyson gave a surprising response: “I have a biting fixation.”

Fans took to social media to weigh in, with many defending Tyson and suggesting his behavior was nothing new.

One user on X remarked: “My man, Tyson’s mouthpiece is fine. He bites his gloves. He’s done it forever. Stop talking about his mouthpiece.”

Another quipped: “Tyson’s ‘I have a biting fixation’ comment in the post-fight interview when asked if he was biting his glove or having issues with his mouthguard is up there with some of the all-time funniest.”

A third joked: “Tyson has chewed on his gloves more times than he’s used them to throw an actual punch.”

The comments inevitably drew comparisons to Tyson’s infamous 1997 fight against Evander Holyfield, during which he bit off a portion of Holyfield’s ear—a moment forever etched in boxing history.

Other peculiar moments surrounded the event. Fans got a “jump-scare” when footage from Tyson’s locker room inadvertently revealed him partially unclothed. Meanwhile, some viewers experienced streaming difficulties, frustrating those trying to tune into the historic fight.

Even Paul’s walk-out song garnered attention, as it was a nod to Tyson’s cameo in The Hangover.
