It’s Michael Penix Jr’s time in Atlanta.
After Falcons head coach Raheem Morris remained noncommittal about the quarterback position, it’s now been confirmed that the team will start rookie Michale Penix Jr. on Sunday against the New York Giants, benching Kirk Cousins.
Morris released this statement regarding the decision to bench Cousins and start the rookie:
“After review we have made the decision Michael Penix will be the Atlanta Falcons starting quarterback moving forward,” head coach Raheem Morris said in the statement. “This was a football decision and we are fully focused on preparing the team for Sunday’s game against the New York Giants.”
Penix, 24, transferred from Indiana to Washington for the 2022 season, after spending four seasons at Indiana. The Falcons used the No. 8 overall pick in the 2024 draft on Penix.
