Kansas City Chiefs S Bryan Cook being evaluated for head injury in AFC divisional round game vs. Houston Texans

Update: Cook returned to the game with about four minutes left to go in the second quarter.

The Kansas City Chiefs‘ defensive secondary has taken a hit during the AFC divisional round against the Houston Texans.

After colliding with Texans WR Nico Collins after a 14-yard catch at the end of the first quarter, Chiefs S Bryan Cook was taken off the field to be evaluated for a head injury. He was taken into the blue medical tent on the sideline with the league’s independent neuro consultant. Afterward, he was taken into the locker room for further evaluation, and he didn’t look too thrilled.

Cook has been one of the Chiefs’ two starting safeties opposite Justin Reid this season. Cook has recorded 78 total tackles and two interceptions on the year after dealing with injury late last season.

The Chiefs have yet to officially designate Cook as questionable, but they confirmed that he was being evaluated for a head injury.

Thankfully, the team has good depth behind Cook, with rookie S Jaden Hicks taking his place in the lineup for the final plays of the drive. Expect some combination of Hicks and Chris Roland-Wallace if Cook is ruled out due to a concussion.

The team elevated S Deon Bush from the practice squad, but he was one of seven inactive players on Saturday.
