Many Kansas City Chiefs fans were sad to see defensive tackle Khalen Saunders leave in free agency following the 2022 season.
However, that’s life in the NFL sometimes. Saunders would go on to sign with the New Orleans Saints in 2023, starting 27 games for them since. His best season was his last with the Chiefs, recording 48 total tackles, 3.5 sacks, and nine quarterback pressures.
It culminated in winning Super Bowl LVII over the Philadelphia Eagles, where Saunders recorded a sack on Eagles QB Jalen Hurt. Fast forward to today, and Kansas City is set to play in the Super Bowl against Philadelphia yet again.
The big game is in New Orleans this year, which is where Saunders now resides. After the Chiefs beat the Buffalo Bills in the AFC Championship Game, Saunders took to X to let his ex-teammates know he’ll be ready to have them over.
Saunders tagged Chiefs defenders Chris Jones, Derrick Nnadi, Tershawn Wharton, Mike Pennel, and Mike Danna. Feeling left out, cornerback Jaylen Watson asked for an invite, which Saunders obliged.
If you’re a Chiefs fan who has an account on X, make sure you follow Saunders. He tweets about the Chiefs often, and is usually hilarious while doing so. Saunders has not shied away from continuing to support Kansas City even though he’s now a member of the Saints, which he explained on X this past weekend.
The Saints actually have several other former Chiefs players, such safety Tyrann Mathieu, linebacker Willie Gay Jr., and wide receiver Marquez Valdes-Scantling. Former Chiefs safety Daniel Sorensen also spent time with them back in the 2023 season. All of them won at least one Super Bowl during K.C.’s dynasty run.
If Saunders does have the guys over while they’re in New Orleans, hopefully they take at least a few pictures. However, coach Andy Reid will likely have them on a short leash as they prepare to win their third straight Super Bowl title. Saunders will certainly have plenty of entertaining things to say about his former team over the next two weeks.
