This month of March has unfortunately gotten off to a flying start where it pertains to aviation nightmares following a number of concerning occurrences, including one of the most deadly in a long time, as a FedEx plane was forced to land due to a blown engine.
With the month starting this Saturday, a Boeing 767-3S2F belonging to said shipping company made an emergency landing at Newark Airport in New Jersey after its right engine caught fire in the air.
While there isn’t much information on the incident, a video showing the aircraft flying over what appears to be a populated area has gone viral online.
“A @FedEx Plane from @EWRairport had an engine blow right above Elizabeth, NJ.,” the user who posted it wrote in the caption.
Thankfully, it has since been reported that the plane was able to make a safe landing. The engine fire was also said to be the result of a collision with a bird shortly after takeoff.
FedEx Plane Incident The Latest In A String Of Aviation Mishaps This Year

As noted above, information is sketchy, so the number of people on the FedEx plane at the time is unclear. Fortunately, it doesn’t appear that anyone was injured, as no such reports have surfaced.
This is just one of many scary aviation incidents that have taken place in the last several weeks. The most terrifying one occurred in late January, when a military helicopter collided with an American Airlines flight over the Potomac River, killing 67 people and leaving no survivors.
