Former Los Angeles Dodgers outfielder Raul Mondesir has been handed a six-year prison sentence.
Mondesi was a star for the Dodgers in the 1990s, hitting 24 or more home runs in five of his seven seasons with the team while staying around 100 runs batted in. The two-time Gold Glove winner also boasts having stolen 32 bases during a single campaign.
Despite his prowess, Mondesi only made one All-Star Game, which would have been blasphemous in the current era.
The 53-year-old was fondly remembered by fans but has since been involved in serious legal trouble.
According to Spanish publication Listin Diario, Mondesi was recently sentenced to six years’ imprisonment in the Dominican Republic. He was found guilty on charges of embezzlement from his time as mayor of his San Cristobal hometown from 2010-2016.
The sentence comes as part of a plea deal with local prosecutors. The former Los Angeles Dodgers star previously served six years of house arrest after being charged with corruption and mishandling of public funds in 2017.
He was fined 30 million pesos, which amounts to $500,000.
