Do a quick search on X/Twitter, and you’ll come across plenty of angry fans who felt let down by the main event of WWE WrestleMania 41 on Sunday night, featuring Cody Rhodes and John Cena.

John Cena and Cody Rhodes closed out night two of WrestleMania 41 in Las Vegas, with Undisputed WWE Championship gold on the line. Thanks to some award-winning rapper Travis Scott, Cena defeated Rhodes via pinfall to claim his 17th world championship, breaking the record he previously shared with Hall of Famer Ric Flair.

The highly anticipated bout lasted just over 21 minutes, much shorter than the Rhodes-Roman Reigns main event last year that went for 33:25. Throw in Scott’s interference and Cena cheating to win, and you had plenty of unhappy fans:

“the follow up to cena’s heel turn has just been a massive disappointment,” wrote a user.

“That sucked. So mid. Everyone knew he was going to win. They did it in the most boring Vince McMahon way ever. So underwhelming. Zero aura. Ref knocked out twice. Mania 41 in VEGAS, was a let down. Stage of Stage was nothing more than a mid tier PLE. Damn. Absolute waste,” one fan wrote.

“That main event was awful. Truly awful. Travis Scott doesn’t belong in sports entertainment. Possibly the worst ending to a mania since… Wrestlemania 9?” quipped another.

“The ending to John Cena/Cody Rhodes was SO BAD #Wrestlemania,” said a user.

“I am completely lost for words I just don’t understand it could have been done in a better way, I’m very disappointed 😔 I have no problem with cena winning but the match itself was terrible and no need for Travis Scott he gives nothing to the story 🤦‍♀️,” another fan wrote.

John Cena v Cody Rhodes was the most underwhelming main event match, that I have ever watched. Pathetic!” a user remarked.

Last year, Cena announced that he would retire from wrestling at the end of 2025. With the clock ticking on his career, Triple H and WWE officials ultimately decided that this was the best way for Cena to get the long-awaited 17th championship.

Sunday in Las Vegas marked the final WrestleMania match of John Cena’s illustrious career, and he ended it in style: With a record-breaking title victory against a future Hall of Famer in the main event.

Fans won’t have to wait much longer for answers from Cena and Rhodes, with the post-WrestleMania “Monday Night Raw” taking place in Vegas in less than 24 hours.
