The situation is quickly escalating between Iran and the US
Iran launched strikes on US military bases following America’s strikes on Iran nuclear facilities over the weekend.
Early reports have indicated that Iran has retaliated against the US following Donald Trump sanctioned strikes on the country on Saturday.
The US strikes targeted three of Iran’s key nuclear facilities and the president later confirmed the attack on Truth Social and issued a warning against Iran.
He wrote: “We have completed our very successful attack on the three Nuclear sites in Iran, including Fordow, Natanz, and Esfahan. All planes are now outside of Iran air space. A full payload of BOMBS was dropped on the primary site, Fordow. All planes are safely on their way home.
“Congratulations to our great American Warriors. There is not another military in the World that could have done this. NOW IS THE TIME FOR PEACE! Thank you for your attention to this matter.”
In a separate post he added: “ANY RETALIATION BY IRAN AGAINST THE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA WILL BE MET WITH FORCE FAR GREATER THAN WHAT WAS WITNESSED TONIGHT. THANK YOU! DONALD J. TRUMP, PRESIDENT OF THE UNITED STATES.”
However, it would appear Iran has done just that and retaliated, on Monday June 23.
Iran targeting Ain al-Asad airbase, the largest US base in the Middle East that houses some 10,000 troops.
Qatar officials have so far said there were no casualties following the attack on the base.
Donald Trump’s administration has since made it clear how they are dealing with the rapidly shifting situation.
Donald Trump is suspected to currently be in the White House’s situation room and intends to go ahead with a meeting of his national security team which had been scheduled for 1pm EDT (6pm BST).
The Trump administration said in a statement: “The White House and the department of defence are aware of, and closely monitoring, potential threats.”
