Some rogue audio came through the broadcast while Scottie Scheffler played his opening round at the 2025 Open Championship at Portrush, Northern Ireland, on Thursday.

Scheffler was lining up a downhill approach shot, a near-perfect one at that, when a thunderous fart came through on the broadcast.

The flatulence wasn’t all that brief, hitting the mic like a blown bagpipe across the Irish breeze. The commentators struggled to maintain their composure, laughing uncontrollably while trying to remain professional.

Still, one of them branded it “just a little bit of wind from behind.”

Check it out in the video below:

The runaway breeze quickly spread around social media and has since been dubbed the “Fart Heard ‘Round the Fairway” on various platforms.

Of course, people wanted answers, inquiring whether the blast could have come from a rogue fan or a technical blip. We’re no experts here, but it definitely sounded like broken wind.

Thankfully for Scheffler, he probably didn’t hear the fart, so he didn’t have to deal with the distraction, plus his ball was long in the air by the time it rang across the mic.

The World No. 1 landed his shot a few feet away to convert for a birdie. He really can play through anything, can’t he? Well, short of being arrested while trying to get to work.

The 29-year-old finished the round at 3-under 68, one shot off the lead.

He has maintained his position of World No. 1 for over 100 consecutive weeks, the longest streak since Tiger Woods’ reign as the world’s top golfer.
