Harrison Butker calls out ‘crazy’ Paris Olympic opening ceremony with bible quote as Chiefs kicker stirs up controversy AGAIN

Kansas City Chiefs kicker Harrison Butker is using his religion as a platform for social commentary once again after objecting to one particular scene in the Opening Ceremony of the Paris Olympics.

In one segment of the long and anthemic production, a group of drag queens are stretched out along an elevated red carpet.

Their assembly appeared to resemble Leonardo da Vinci’s painting of ‘The Last Supper’ by design.

A number of people took to social media to proclaim their offense to this display, with Butker one of them.

He tweeted out a video of the performance, quoting a verse from the Bible: Galatians 6:7-8.

‘Be not deceived, God is not mocked. For what things a man shall sow, those also shall he reap. For he that soweth in his flesh, of the flesh also shall reap corruption. But he that soweth in the spirit, of the spirit shall reap life everlasting,’ Butker’s tweet read.

The performance drew ire from many Christians, who believed their religion was being mocked.

The phrases ‘disgusting’ and ‘Sodom and Gomorrah’ were trending on Twitter the morning after the ceremony took place, with the performance remaining a topic of discussion.

Butker has been at the center of controversy earlier this summer after a commencement speech at Benedictine College in Kansas that some decried as sexist.

Butker congratulated the women receiving degrees and said most of them were probably more excited about getting married and having children. He also said some Catholic leaders were ‘pushing dangerous gender ideologies onto the youth of America.’

Butker, whose own mother is an accomplished physicist, also criticized Pride month and President Joe Biden‘s stance on abortion.

The controversial speech has attracted fierce backlash and, a day after his address, a petition was set up to have the Chiefs kicker removed from the team’s roster ahead of the 2024 NFL season.

Butker remains on the Chiefs roster and made a trip to The White House to celebrate his team’s Super Bowl victory.
