United States President Donald Trump will attend a major sporting event this weekend, but it’s probably not close to what you’re thinking.

Since returning to office, the POTUS has attended multiple sports showdowns, making a nuisance of himself at the Club World Cup final between Chelsea and Paris Saint-Germain, which saw him called out by Blues midfielder Cole Palmer.

He also revealed having kept the original trophy in his office and letting the London-based side leave the U.S. with a replica.

The NFL season kicked off this Thursday with a game between NFC East rivals the Dallas Cowboys and the Philadelphia Eagles. The contest had just about everything, including Spitgate and a one-hour weather delay.

There is plenty of action left through to Monday, but Trump won’t be attending any football games this weekend; at least he hasn’t announced such. The President plans to attend the men’s final of the U.S. Open, which will mark his first time since he was booed at a quarter-final 10 years ago.

Donald Trump Used To Be A Regular At The U.S. Open

The White House has confirmed that Trump will make the trip to New York for the match and return to Washington thereafter, per ABC News.

No. 1 seed and defending champion Jannik Sinner is scheduled to play Felix Auger-Aliassime in one semi-final this Friday, with Novak Djokovic set to face Carlos Alcaraz in the other. The President should be in for an entertaining matchup either way.

For decades, Donald Trump was a regular at the Grand Slam tournament and was often seen sitting in a suite. However, he hasn’t been back since getting booed at a quarter-final in September 2015 because he launched his 2016 presidential campaign months prior.

The Trump Organization had control over a suite at the tournament next to the television broadcasting booth at the Arthur Ashe Stadium but suspended it during the first year of his first term.

The President, whose New Jersey golf club is under review amid curious circumstances, has attended the Super Bowl, Daytona 500, multiple UFC fights, the NCAA wrestling championships, and the Club World Cup this year.
