Donald Trump has once again slammed the NFL. This has been an ongoing theme since Trump called Colin Kaepernick and other NFL players sons of bitches for peacefully protesting against systemic racism and police brutality.
Now, he is taking aim at the Dynamic kickoff.
The NFL had one of its most radical changes in years in 2024 when the dynamic kickoff was created to resemble a scrimmage play by aligning players on both teams closer together and restricting movement to reduce speed that would cause high-speed collisions, and promoting more returns in the game.
The league modified the onside kick in 2025, as teams can now declare an onside kick throughout the entire game instead of the fourth quarter, but only when they are trailing.
Trump hates everything about it, and he made his opinion on it very clear with a scathing post.
Donald Trump Takes Aim At The NFL
The President of the United States took to Truth Social to blast the league two weeks after the new kickoff made its NFL debut.
On Monday, Trump railed against the NFL’s new kickoff rule, calling it the “exact opposite of what football is about.”
“The NFL has to get rid of that ridiculous-looking new Kickoff Rule,” he wrote on Truth Social. “How can they make such a big and sweeping change so easily and quickly. It’s at least as dangerous as the ‘normal’ kickoff, and looks like (hell). The ball is moving, and the players are not, the exact opposite of what football is all about.
“‘Sissy’ football is bad for America, and bad for the NFL! Who comes up with these ridiculous ideas? It’s like wanting to ‘roll back’ the golf ball so it doesn’t go (nearly!) as far. Fortunately, college football will remain the same, hopefully forever!!”
In 2024, teams and players returned kickoffs at a 32.8% clip, which was an increase from 2023, so the league got what they were looking for.
Through Week 1 of this season, kickoffs saw a surge in returns to 75%, the highest rate of any week since 2010.
Donald Trump might not like it, but the change is working.
