Puerto Rican rapper and singer Bad Bunny will headline the next Super Bowl halftime show, as reported during Sunday Night Football’s halftime.
The Puerto Rican superstar will now be the second-straight artist that the National Football League has co-signed, an artist who is deemed “controversial.”
Kendrick Lamar angered some conservative viewers with the political symbolism he utilized during his performance at Super Bowl LIX in February.
The anticipation surrounding Lamar’s performance had been mounting for months, especially since Lil Wayne went on record stating how disappointed he was to be passed over to do the show in his city.
Bad Bunny has yet to even lay one of his hits, and social media is already in an uproar about his upcoming performance.
“Having Bad Bunny at the Super Bowl Halftime Show is the equivalent of having Morgan Wallen at a soccer game in Mexico. It’s just not a good fit at all for the sport,” one person said.
“Nothing screams ‘football’ like a guy rapping about perreo,” a second person stated.
“We gotta make the halftime show great again. We went from MJ/Prince to Kendrick Lamar/Bad Bunny 😭,” a third fan wrote.
“Not sure this is the right move. His style is too niche for such a mainstream event. Curious if he’ll perform in Spanish or English. Either way, NFL viewership in Latin America is about to skyrocket,” a fourth person added.
“Awesome, my Super Bowl halftime dump won’t be interrupted,” a fifth person replied.
“Me during Bad Bunny halftime show not knowing a single song or lyric,” one final person commented.
Puerto Rican Rapper Bad Bunny Previously Had Disparaging Things To Say About Caucasian People
The NFL has been criticized for announcing that Bad Bunny will perform at the 2026 Super Bowl halftime show.
Not only because of his style of music, but also because of what he previously stated about Caucasian people and the United States.
The three-time Grammy Award winner stated earlier this month that he refused to book tour dates in America because he was worried ICE agents would target concert attendees.
The singer, whose real name is Benito Ocasio, also referenced Bunny’s previous comments about “gringos.”
“I highly doubt the type of gringos I don’t f**k with listen to me. Those were all the people at the Super Bowl who were pissed off about how Latino the halftime show was,” it read.
