On Oct. 14, Mangold told the world that he had been diagnosed in 2006 with a genetic defect that led to chronic kidney disease. He further revealed that he had a “rough summer” and was undergoing dialysis while seeking a kidney transplant.
He was in need of a kidney transplant. Unfortunately, his situation progressively got worse in the past two weeks, and he would lose his life as a result.
Nick Mangold is currently being considered for induction into the Pro Football Hall of Fame.

Former Jets center Nick Mangold has died at the age of 41.
The 2006 first-round draft pick spent 11 years with the team. In his career, he was a two-time All-Pro, a seven-time Pro Bowler, and a member of the Jets’ Ring of Honor.
Before his NFL career, the Centerville native began his football career at Archbishop Alter in Kettering and enrolled at Ohio State. He would help the program win the national title during the 2002 season.
In 2005, he would be named a First-team All-American as well as a Second-team All-Big Ten that same year.
His incredible play led the New York Jets to take him 29th overall in the 2006 NFL Draft, where he would become one of the best interior linemen in the league.
In his plea for a kidney a few weeks ago, Mangold wrote, “…I thought I would have had more time.”
We extend our condolences to Mangold’s family, friends, teammates, and coaches as they navigate through this difficult time.
