Marshawn Kneeland has left a large amount of sadness in the wake of his tragic passing days after scoring his first career touchdown.
Tragedy hit the NFL on Thursday with the death of the Cowboys’ defensive end. Kneeland died of a self-inflicted gunshot wound, according to the Texas Department of Public Safety.
According to DPS, “Troopers attempted to stop a vehicle for a traffic violation [at 10:33 p.m. CT]. The driver refused to stop, resulting in a pursuit with DPS Troopers.”
The pursuit was eventually terminated after troopers could no longer find him. They had no idea he would turn up hours later in the worst possible way.
Troopers later found the car they had been pursuing, but it had been abandoned and was involved in a crash.
After searching the area, police found Kneeland at 1:31 a.m. “deceased from what appeared to be a self-inflicted gunshot wound.”
Once the news hit the airwaves, a wave of grief would follow, especially from the teammates who had just played alongside him on Monday Night Football.
Marshawn Kneeland’s Teammates Leave Flowers Near His Locker
Following the death of Dallas Cowboys defensive end Marshawn Kneeland, the NFL star’s teammates have been left in pain.
Dallas Cowboys quarterback Dak Prescott said it was, “Tragic loss, I hurt, heavy heart today.”
“I hurt for Marshawn, I hurt for his family, I hurt for his girlfriend, and I hurt for every single one of my teammates. This is a pain you don’t wish upon anybody.”
Cowboys linebacker Kenneth Murphy wrote, “Fly high brother,” while tight end Jake Ferguson wrote, “Love You Brother,” along with three black heart emojis.
The latest gesture came in the locker room when the guys left some flowers at Marshawn Kneeland’s locker with the caption, “Love you, dawg.”
RIP Marshawn Kneeland, you will be missed.
