Donald Trump recently gave a surprising update about his plan to send $2,000 dividend checks to Americans.
The Original Promise
Trump first shared the plan on Truth Social last year. He claimed the country is now the richest in the world. He promised a dividend of at least $2,000 per person. However, high-income people will not receive these payments.

Treasury Details Payments
Scott Bessent explained how the refunds will work. He expects $100 billion to $150 billion in total refunds. Families should receive between $1,000 and $2,000 each. The checks are expected to arrive in early 2026.
A Surprising Interview
Last week, the New York Times asked Trump about the checks. The president initially seemed confused by the question. “I did do that? When did I do that?” Trump asked the reporter during the Oval Office interview. Then he mentioned giving $1,776 to the military.

New Payment Timeline
Trump later said the tariff money is very substantial. He thinks the $2,000 payments will happen sometime. “I would say toward the end of the year.” Previously, he said checks would arrive before the June World Cup.
Seeking Funding Sources
Trump believes he does not need Congressional approval. He claims the money comes from other sources. “No, I don’t believe we do. We have it coming in from other sources.” Meanwhile, he continues to defend his trade policies.
