Former High School Football Star Tragically Dies 4 Years After His Brother, And In The Same Horrifying Way

One family has lost two members in the same tragic way.

Josh Cardiello’s family is obviously distraught in losing a family member. Losing that family member the same way another one died makes it even worse.

The former Buford football standout died on Monday after going into sudden cardiac arrest. His father revealed as much in a heartbreaking social media post. It happened while playing sports.

His father, Jay Cardiello, said that Josh was playing basketball when he collapsed.

“His loss was completely unexpected and has left our family, friends, and colleagues heartbroken,” his father wrote.

According to his obituary, Josh Cardiello “was a 3-time Champion Football player with Buford High School and a 2013 Georgia Football signee with a full scholarship.” Following high school, he “finished his football career as a 3rd-year starter at the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga.”

An obituary from Flanigan Funeral Home & Crematory describes the late Josh as “a big giant Teddy Bear with a heart of gold.”

What makes this even worse is that his brother died in the exact same way. Josh’s younger brother, Jacob Cardiello, also died from sudden cardiac arrest in 2021. Two brothers, gone the same way, just four years apart.

Back in 2023, Damar Hamlin collapsed from cardiac arrest on the field. Medics rushed out to administer CPR on Hamlin. He was eventually intubated on the field and rushed to a local hospital. He later returned to continue his career.

Josh Cardiello was a three-time champion football player with Buford High School. He will forever be remembered in his community.
