BREAKING: ‘Varsity Blues’ Star Tragically Dies at 48

Some terrible news in the entertainment world today.

James Van Der Beek, known for his roles as Dawson Leery in “Dawson’s Creek” and Jonathan Moxon in “Varsity Blues”, has died after a battle with cancer. He was 48.

After numerous media outlets broke the tragic news, Van Der Beek’s wife, Kimberly, shared an emotional post on Instagram. Van Der Beek announced in Aug. 2023 that he had been diagnosed with stage 3 colorectal cancer.

“Our beloved James David Van Der Beek passed peacefully this morning. He met his final days with courage, faith, and grace. There is much to share regarding his wishes, love for humanity, and the sacredness of time. Those days will come. For now we ask for peaceful privacy as we grieve our loving husband, father, son, brother, and friend.”

TMZ first reported the news of James Van Der Beek’s passing. Van Der Beek and Kimberly married in 2010 and had six children together.

Tributes Pour In For James Van Der Beek

The entertainment industry came together to offer numerous heartwarming tributes to Van Der Beek.

“What a heartbreaking loss. So much love to you, Kimberly, and to your kids, as you navigate this tender time. ♥️,” Jennifer Garner commented on Kimberly’s Instagram post.

“We are the luckiest to have been part of his tribe. Fly high James. You were everything good in this world. ❤️,” wrote “The Sopranos” star Jamie-Lynn Sigler.

“🙏,” Joey McIntyre commented.

“Dawson’s Creek” produced 128 episodes over six seasons. The award-winning teen drama series also starred Joshua Jackson, Michelle Williams, Katie Holmes and Mary-Margaret Humes. Van Der Beek was the main star of the “Varsity Blues” football film that also starred Jon Voight, Ron Lester, Paul Walker and Richard Lineback.
