Support grows worldwide as Vonn prepares for another major surgery.
The skiing world is now focused on Lindsey Vonn’s recovery after her serious injury at the 2026 Winter Olympics.
The 41-year-old Olympic star broke her tibia during Sunday’s downhill race. She had already been competing with a torn ACL before the crash. Medical teams quickly took her off the course and flew her to a hospital in Treviso, where doctors began treatment right away.
Vonn confirmed earlier this week that surgeons had already completed three procedures. She shared an update midweek. “I had my 3rd surgery today and it was successful. Success today has a completely different meaning than it did a few days ago,” she said on Wednesday. “I’m making progress and while it is slow, I know I’ll be ok.”
The injury happened during the downhill race in Cortina d’Ampezzo, Italy. Officials had early concerns about her condition because she entered the Games with a serious knee injury.
Doctors plan at least two more surgeries. Vonn expects another procedure this weekend. She said, “It’s been a quiet hard few days here in the hospital here. I’m finally feeling more like myself, but I have a long way to go. Tomorrow, I’ll have another surgery and hopefully that goes well. Then I can potentially leave and go back home, at which point I’ll need another surgery. Don’t know exactly what that entails until I get some better imaging.”
Sports World And Fans Send Support For Vonn
Support messages continue to flood social media. Athletes across sports have publicly reached out.
Olympic gymnastics star Simone Biles wrote for Vonn, “Sending good vibes.”
German tennis player Sabine Lisicki added, “Stay Strong LV! Wishing you all the best for the surgery tomorrow. Sending a big hug your way.”
Fashion creator Tamara Kalinic also shared support. “Sending you love and hugs and wish we could be there with you, but please know we think about you all the time,” she wrote.
Fans also filled comment sections with encouragement. One user wrote, “We are all worried and here for you. Whatever you need reach out.”
Vonn has been sharing updates from her hospital room on Instagram. She told her followers that she is starting to feel more like herself again, but she knows she still has a long recovery ahead.
The sports world is now waiting for more news after her surgery this weekend. Many athletes and fans continue to send support to the three-time Olympic medalist. For now, her main focus is on healing and getting better.
