The Buffalo Bills have signed former Dallas Cowboys quarterback Ben DiNucci to bolster their depth chart following an injury to Shane Buechele.

On Monday, the JL Sports Agency announced in an X/Twitter post that client Ben DiNucci has signed with the Buffalo Bills. The news comes after the team announced that Buechele will miss time with a neck injury he suffered in their preseason loss to the Chicago Bears on Saturday.

The 27-year-old Ben DiNucci spent two seasons on the Cowboys’ roster (2020 to 2021). He started their Week 8 “Sunday Night Football” road game against the Philadelphia Eagles, completing 21 passes for 180 yards, no touchdowns and no picks in a 23-9 loss.

DiNucci saw three total game appearances during the 2020 season (the only NFL action he’s seen to date), throwing for 219 yards and no touchdowns. He later played for the XFL’s Seattle Sea Dragons and landed a job with the Denver Broncos, spending the 2023 season on their practice squad.

The Broncos waived Ben DiNucci following the 2024 NFL Draft, having used a first-round pick on Oregon’s Bo Nix to challenge for the QB1 job. DiNucci will presumably be the third-string QB while Buechele is sidelined, behind superstar Josh Allen and backup Mitch Trubisky.

Ben DiNucci Gets To Learn From One Of Football’s Best

It remains to be seen how long Ben DiNucci will be on the Bills’ roster for. He’ll likely get considerable playing time over the next two preseason games against the Pittsburgh Steelers and Carolina Panthers.

Trubisky’s experience and familiarity in Buffaloe’s offense (he was Allen’s backup in 2021) mean it’ll be difficult for DiNucci to potentially unseat him as the No. 2 quarterback. But there’s nothing wrong in learning from a superstar quarterback in Allen as well as a top head coach in Sean McDermott.

The Bills will open their 2024 season with a Week 1 home game against the Arizona Cardinals.
