USA Gymnastics has submitted ‘proof’ that Jordan Chiles should not have been stripped of her Olympic medal.
The controversy began after the 23-year-old competed at the Paris Olympics in the women’s floor final on 5 August.
Chiles result came back as fifth place. Her coach, Cecile Landi then issued a difficulty score inquiry.
The judges amended her score, meaning the athlete finished third, earning Chiles her first bronze medal as an individual.
Sadly the Court Arbitration for the Sport ruled that her coach had submitted the amended score too late – reportedly four seconds after the deadline.
Meaning Chiles would finish fifth after all.
However, USA Gym has claimed they have video evidence that proves Landi submitted the enquiry in the allotted time.
A statement shared by US Gym reads:
“The time-stamped, video evidence submitted by USA Gymnastics Sunday evening shows Landi first stated her request to file an inquiry at the inquiry table 47 seconds after the score is posted, followed by a second statement 55 seconds after the score was originally posted,”
“The video footage provided was not available to USA Gymnastics prior to the tribunal’s decision and thus USAG did not have the opportunity to previously submit it.”
A spokesperson for USA Gym said they are unable to share the footage due to confidentially rules.
