The San Francisco Giants have made a sensational move, bringing back a beloved member of their World Series championship teams. All-Star shortstop Brandon Crawford has rejoined the organization as the team’s new bench coach.
Crawford, a three-time World Series champion and three-time Gold Glove winner, spent 12 seasons as the Giants’ shortstop before announcing his retirement as a player in January. His return to the franchise has sparked widespread excitement among fans and players alike.
“Brandon’s knowledge, experience, and passion for the game make him an ideal fit for our coaching staff,” said Giants manager Gabe Kapler. “We’re thrilled to have him back in the organization.”
Crawford’s transition to coaching marks a new chapter in his illustrious career. The 36-year-old veteran will bring valuable insight and expertise to the Giants’ bench.
Crawford’s playing career was defined by clutch performances, exceptional defense, and unwavering dedication. Drafted by the Giants in 2008, he rose through the ranks to become one of the most respected shortstops in the game.
A three-time All-Star, Crawford earned seven National League Silver Slugger Awards and three Gold Glove Awards. His iconic home runs in the 2012 and 2014 postseasons cemented his status as a Giants legend.
As bench coach, Crawford will work closely with Kapler and the coaching staff to develop game strategies and provide guidance to players.
“Brandon’s presence will be invaluable in helping our players grow and develop,” Kapler emphasized. “His understanding of the game and ability to communicate will make an immediate impact.”
Crawford’s coaching style is expected to reflect his playing persona: intelligent, gritty, and team-oriented.
Current Giants players welcomed Crawford’s return with enthusiasm: “BC’s back! Can’t wait to learn from him,” tweeted shortstop Thairo Estrada.
“Brandon’s a true Giant,” said pitcher Logan Webb. “His experience and knowledge will help us immensely.”
Giants President of Baseball Operations Farhan Zaidi praised Crawford’s addition: “Brandon’s a Giant for life. His leadership and expertise will be invaluable in shaping our team’s identity.”
