George Springer has been both clutch and unlucky during this current playoff run.
During Game 3, he was unable to leave to play out the game as he appeared to injure himself while swinging at a pitch in the seventh inning on Monday, grabbing at his right side almost immediately after fouling off a ball.
Before that, Los Angeles Dodgers starter Yoshinobu Yamamoto plunked George in Game 2, a moment that sent Rogers Centre into a frenzy.
A still shot of that moment made the rounds on social media, showing Springer looking quite distressed as he gets hit by a pitch.
Unfortunately for George Springer, who was cheered on by Mariners fans for being hurt, social media has turned on him and called him out for cheating yet again.
Fans seem to think that the outfielder is wearing an Apple Watch, which is banned by Major League Baseball.
How Fans Reacted To George Springer Possibly Wearing A Banned Apple Watch
“I say this with complete seriousness, as Boston was caught for something similar and past transgression with Springer. He should not be allowed to wear any smart devices, if it is a smart watch,” one fan said.
“Sure looks like a smart watch to me, ol’ cheating George back up to his old tricks,” a second fan wrote.
“The cameras in the outfield hotels pick up on pitchcom signals and then vibrate George Springer’s Apple Watch to inform him what pitch is coming. Dirty cheaters 😡😡😡,” a third fan stated.
“Why is George Springer wearing an Apple Watch during the World Series? Does it ever end with these Astros and former Astros?” a fourth fan added.
“Someone want to explain to me why cheating POS George Springer seems to be wearing a smart watch when MLB rules specifically state that such a device is strictly prohibited. Ole Cheaty McCheat Face is at it again!!” a fifth fan commented.
“George Springer is wearing what looks like an Apple Watch during his at-bat. Maybe the Dodgers found out he’s cheating again, and that’s why they keep hitting him?” a sixth fan responded.
Springer has been a hero for the Toronto Blue Jays this postseason, hitting a home run in Game 7 of the ALCS to help send the franchise to the World Series.
But he has also dealt with his fair share of injuries and being hit by pitches.
In the epic 18-inning Game 3 of the 2025 World Series, he left in the middle of an at-bat in the seventh inning.
Jays manager John Schneider revealed afterwards that he has “right side discomfort” and was sent for an MRI.
It is unclear if he will be available for Game 4.
