A former Major League Baseball pitcher was tragically killed in a car accident over the weekend. Roberto Gomez is reportedly dead at 35 in the wake of a fatal collision on Sunday following a stint as a professional baseball player.

According to MLB insider Hector Gomez, the erstwhile pitcher succumbed to injuries suffered from his involvement in an accident in the Dominican Republic.

“Former San Francisco Giants pitcher Roberto Gomez, 35, died due to a traffic accident in Santiago, DR,” Hector reported on Sunday.

Social media users were saddened by the announcement and were also upset by the frequency of such incidents in the Dominican Republic.

“Why does this happen to so many players from the DR??? RIP!” another chimed in.

“I don’t remember him. Only pitched 9 games for the Giants. But really sad RIP,” someone else wrote.

“Unfortunately, in our country our road education is very poor,” Hector replied.

Roberto Gomez Played For Multiple MLB Teams

Roberto Gomez’s first stint in the MLB was with the Tampa Bay Rays. He made his debut for the team in 2010 and remained with them until 2014.

Two years later, he signed a minor league deal with the San Francisco Giants, debuting for them in the MLB in 2017. Gomez registered a win and 17 strikeouts as a Giant.

The pitcher joined the Pittsburgh Pirates in 2019 and was released thereafter due to medical reasons.

TPS extends condolences to Roberto’s family, friends, and loved ones.
