An old interview from Shane Tamura’s playing days has surfaced on social media in the wake of his opening fire inside a Manhattan skyscraper on Monday.
According to New York City Mayor Eric Adams, Tamura meant to target the NFL’s headquarters but took the wrong elevator, with a note found on his body claiming he had CTE while suggesting he blamed the league.
“He seemed to have blamed the NFL,” Adams said. “The NFL headquarters was located in the building, and he mistakenly went up the wrong elevator bank.”
Tamura ended up killing four people before reportedly taking his own life.
The 27-year-old was a star running back at a California high school who won six awards and later played in Canada.
A postgame interview from his time at high school is right below:

In the note found in his pocket, per CNN, Shane Tamura attributed whatever he was going through to football, which he wrote, “gave me CTE and it caused me to drink a gallon of antifreeze.”
“You can’t go against the NFL, they’ll squash you,” it added, requesting that his brain be studied.
The former running back killed a 36-year-old NYPD officer who was working a paid security gig for Rudin Management. He has been lauded as a hero by the Mayor, who said he sacrificed his life to protect others.
A female civilian was also fatally shot while trying to hide behind a pillar, while a male security guard was also killed while taking cover behind a desk. Another male, believed to be a Blackstone executive, also died.
One NFL employee was critically injured and remains in stable condition at hospital.
