A recent JV football game in Texas resulted in quite an unexpected outcome, as one player was hospitalized with concerning injuries while another should expect to be suspended, or worse.

When it comes to football, the term “contact sport” is a massive understatement. Players at all levels require medical treatment all the time, but the student likely wouldn’t have seen the inside of a hospital had it not been for the vicious attack shown below.

The game in question, between La Vernia and A.C. Jones, turned ugly and, should the parents of the injured player opt to press charges, there could be plenty to answer to.

Shocking footage shows a La Vernia player tackling an opponent to the ground before appearing to punch him, slam his head into the turf, rip his helmet off, and smash it into his face.

The mother of the Jones player, Nicole Voelkel, posted a video of the scuffle to Facebook, revealing that her son was rushed to the ER and required X-rays and a CT scan.

“La Vernia football player assaulted my son with a deadly weapon. We’re in the ER now waiting for CT and X-rays. He’s hurting pretty bad with bruising. Please keep Keagan in your prayers,” she captioned the footage, which you can see below:

JV Football Violence On The Rise

This incident follows several troubling occurrences from the high school gridiron, including one where a player also had his helmet ripped off and then got punched in the head last month.

Another one involves a student who pancaked an opponent and caused spinal fractures that left the latter in a wheelchair. The players and their families have since come together in a show of unity and forgiveness, marking an incredible turn of events following a controversy that led to death threats and racial slurs.

As for the Texas incident, the Beeville Independent School District has released a statement acknowledging the assault.

The statement condemned the aggressor’s actions but noted that “The district cannot and will not share any information on the incident, because the students involved are minors and protected by the Federal Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA.)”
