Tom Brady compares Drew Bledsoe’s mentorship to Aaron Rodgers’ at Packers

Tom Brady played behind quarterback Drew Bledsoe initially with the New England Patriots. The seven-time Super Bowl winner has found a similar situation with former Green Bay Packers superstar Aaron Rodgers.

Brady was drafted by the Patriots in the sixth round of the 2000 NFL Draft. He overtook the starter job during the Week 2 game as Bledsoe got injured. However, the former Tampa Bay Buccaneers QB claims that it was his first year behind Bledsoe that he developed the most. In the same vein, Brady believes Rodgers helped develop Jordan Love at the Packers.

On Monday, Tom Brady appeared in an interview with Colin Cowherd, where he reminisced about his rookie year under Bledsoe.

“My first year I had Drew Bledsoe to look up to, he took all the reps, I got to sit there from behind and watch him every single day I had a real mentor to look up to in Drew,” Brady said.

The 15-time Pro Bowler compared his situation to that of Love, who, after being drafted in the first round, sat behind Rodgers for three seasons until A-Rod departed for the New York Jets.

“Look at Jordan Love who I was watching some of those clips that you had on before I came on, but he had Aaron Rodgers to watch,” Brady said.

Brady claimed it to be the best type of training a young QB could receive.

“That’s the best type of training, in my opinion, watch someone else, do it at a very high level, and then try to emulate them with your own personality,” Brady said.

Though Love did not win the Super Bowl for the Packers in his first year as a starter, as Tom Brady did in 2002, he has clearly stepped up.

Tom Brady doesn’t like the QB culture of today

The five-time Super Bowl MVP has seen and done it all inside the gridiron. However, he isn’t appreciative of the cultural change regarding QBs in today’s time. Brady discussed the lack of grooming in present QBs.

“We’re not allowing them to do that much anymore. Now we’re throwing them out there. Let’s see what you can do,” Brady said.

NFL fans will be able to hear many such insights from Tom Brady as he takes up the analyst job with Fox Sports starting September 8.
