Taylor Swift has finally broken her political silence.
Swift, one of America’s most celebrated pop-culture icons, officially endorsed Vice President Kamala Harris soon after her debate against former President Donald J. Trump.
“Like many of you, I watched the debate tonight,” Ms. Swift wrote on Instagram to her 283 million followers.
“I will be casting my vote for Kamala Harris and Tim Walz in the 2024 Presidential Election. I’m voting for @kamalaharris because she fights for the rights and causes I believe need a warrior to champion them.”
Taylor Swift said Harris “is a steady-handed, gifted leader and I believe we can accomplish so much more in this country if we are led by calm and not chaos,” noting that she was “so heartened and impressed by her selection” of Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz as her running mate due to his support for LGBTQ+ rights, IVF, and “a woman’s right to her own body.”
She also mentioned the recent AI-generated images Trump had promoted that falsely suggested she had endorsed him, adding that the incident “brought me to the conclusion that I need to be very transparent about my actual plans for this election as a voter.
She signed her post as “Childless Cat Lady,” which was a clear reference and shot to comments made by Trump’s running mate, Senator JD Vance of Ohio, about women without children.

Taylor Swift’s possible endorsement has been the subject of intense debate since she had previously endorsed Joe Biden in 2020.
Her first endorsement in her career came two years prior when she went for Democratic Tennessee Gov. Phil Bredesen in the Senate race against Republican candidate Marsha Blackburn, who won the race.
Donald Trump Responds to Taylor Swift’s 2024 Endorsement of Kamala Harris
Taylor Swift said Tuesday that she is supporting Vice President Kamala Harris in the presidential race, ending speculation about her position.
Shortly after the presidential debate ended Tuesday night, Swift shared a photo of her with her cat and wrote in the caption that she would be supporting Harris and Tim Walz.
Taylor Swift encouraged her 283 million followers to do their own research and to vote in the upcoming election.
Former President Donald Trump got wind of it and responded to the “Tortured Poets Department” singer backing the Democratic nominee.
Donald Trump called into Fox & Friends on Wednesday and stated that he likes Brittany Mahomes better than Swift.
“Well, I actually, like, uh…I actually like Mrs. Mahomes much better if you want to know the truth. She’s a big trump fan.”
“I was not a Taylor Swift fan, it was just a question of time. She couldn’t, uh, you couldn’t possibly endorse Biden. You look at Biden you couldn’t possibly endorse him,” Trump continued during the interview in which he described Brittany as “the wife of the great quarterback.”
“But she’s [Swift] a very liberal person, she seems to always endorse a democrat, and she’ll probably pay a price for it in the marketplace,” Trump continued of the star who is about to wrap up her sold-out Eras Tour, which is on track to be one of the highest-grossing tours in music history. “But no, I like Brittany, I think Brittany’s great. Brittany got a lot of news last week she’s a big MAGA fan, that’s the one I like much better than Taylor Swift.”
