A September 11 tribute made by the Carolina Panthers has been marred by comments from fans irate at the team’s Week 1 performance.
Carolina was decimated by the division rival New Orleans Saints last Sunday, falling 47-10 on the road.
As a result, a number of fans chose to leave insensitive comments underneath the team’s Instagram post honoring those who lost their lives on 9/11.
The comments ranged from directly criticizing the players and the ownership to taking a more harsh tack.
‘This team makes me wish i was on those planes,’ wrote one Instagram user.
The Carolina Panthers joined other pro sports teams in paying tribute to 9/11 victims
Their comment section was full of cruel jokes about the team’s recent loss to the Saints
Another said ‘our situation is worser [sic] than theres [sic]’
‘At least Bin Laden connected with his targets,’ another said.
‘Saddam Hussein would be a better defensive coordinator,’ read another comment.
More comments were pointed at quarterback Bryce Young, with one saying, ‘the planes have better accuracy than Bryce.’
Owner David Tepper wasn’t immune from criticism either, with one comment reading, ‘David Tepper is a bigger threat to this country than Osama Bin Laden.’
The Panthers only managed 193 yards of total offense while allowing 379 yards of total offense from the Saints.
Carolina will look to bounce back in their home opener against the Los Angeles Chargers.
