Joe Mixon is coming off a great debut for the Houston Texans in Week 1 but unfortunately in Week 2, it looks like his night was cut short.
During the third quarter of tonight’s Sunday Night Football game between the Bears and Texans in Houston, Joe Mixon went down after suffering an ankle injury. Replay shows Mixon getting hurt on a controversial hip-drop tackle that the league outlawed this past offseason.

Not flagged but injury potential is why #HipDrop is banned#JoeMixon to tent to rule out high ankle sprain pic.twitter.com/7xUqeFElIJ

Joe Mixon
Appears to have the rare medial ankle sprain.
These are SUPER concerning if this is anything worse than mild.
The medial ankle, specifically the deltoid ligament, is the strongest ligament in the ankle and rarely injured as a a result.

Mixon appeared to be in pain as he left the field and departed for Houston’s sideline. He went into the blue medical tent for further evaluation before leaving for the Texans’ locker room.
Houston announced that Mixon is questionable to return with an ankle injury.
