Russell Wilson received a game ball from the Pittsburgh Steelers on Sunday despite doing absolutely nothing in the 13-6 win.
The Steelers faced Russ’ old team, the Denver Broncos, in Week 2 and would record a second successive victory. They will need to improve a lot moving forward as sterner tests will come, but they have shown that they can grind out results when they need to.
Wilson was in full pads for the second week in a row, although he knew he wouldn’t play, and his latest outing of sorts saw him receive a game ball for the pettiest reason ever.
Justin Fields, who has been starting for the injured Wilson, revealed that the veteran quarterback got what head coach Mike Tomlin refers to as a “petty game ball.”
“I think we all know Russ got kind of did dirty last year,” Fields told reporters after the game, per ESPN. “So I know he wished he could have played today in this game, but it’s awesome getting a win for him. He got a petty game ball.”
Justin Fields said everyone knew Russell Wilson was “did dirty” last year by the Broncos and they wanted to win today for him in Denver. Also mentioned Russ got a “petty” game ball along with two other ex-Broncos. pic.twitter.com/12Cqb8XH7I

Russell Wilson Was Joined By Two Of His Teammates
Russ wasn’t the only Steelers player who got a game ball. Practice squad wide receiver Brandon Johnson and punter Corliss Waitman also received balls given that they played for Denver last year, too.
Tomlin has been giving players a game ball after outings in which the Steelers beat their former teams for several years and continued the tradition after Sunday’s win over the Broncos.

As for Wilson, the QB handled the rift between himself and his former team with class but exposed them for threatening to trade him in a bid to get him to take less money last season. Yesterday’s game was perhaps the one he looked forward to most, and it was unfortunate he had to sit out.
At least he got to see them lose.
