In the aftermath of some rough incidents in the WNBA, veteran Angel McCoughtry has offered her services in a return to the league.
Just this past week, we saw Angel Reese take a hard foul from Connecticut Sun star Alyssa Thomas as well as the incident between Chennedy Carter and Caitlin Clark.
Seeing all this rough-and-tumble action from the sidelines has the 37-year-old McCoughtry itching to return to the league – with the veteran saying it’s about time for players to stick up for their teammates.
‘Take care of your players. All of y’all. I don’t care who it is,’ McCoughtry told TMZ.
‘If somebody is dragging your player down by the neck, I’m in your face. “What the hell are you doing?” Hey, we can go have lunch later, but right now we’re competing. Don’t grab my player like that.’

McCoughtry says that rookies like Clark need a veteran presence to ‘push her through’
If players aren’t willing to start standing up for their teammates, then McCoughtry is offering her services.
‘Someone sign me! I’ll make sure, I’m a vet and I’ll make sure I defend and do what I gotta do.’
She added: ‘I’m actually waiting to go back [to the WNBA]. Somebody, I’m here! Call me! C’mon, I’m still dunking the basketball!’
McCoughtry last played in 2022 for the Minnesota Lynx, but believes that she could be a contributor to a title contender or could help out the rookies in the league who need that veteran leadership, such as Clark.
‘I would love to play on a team that can contest for a championship or be a vet to help the young ones … like Caitlin Clark. She needs that vet around her arm just pushing her through the season.’
McCoughtry was the No. 1 overall pick in the 2009 WNBA Draft to the Atlanta Dream and made a name for herself as one of the best in the league.
She’s a five-time WNBA All-Star, a two-time All-WNBA First Teamer, and a two time scoring and steals champion.
For her whole WNBA career, she averaged 18.6 points, five rebounds, and 2.9 assists a game.
