McCaffrey was a surprise inactive for the team’s Week 1 game against the New York Jets and since then had been placed on injured reserve.
The earliest he can return is Week 6 against the Seattle Seahawks, which is a Thursday Night Football game. In his absence, Jordan Mason has filled and rushed for 324 yards and two touchdowns on the ground in three games.
The 49ers are 1-2 to start the season and the injuries are piling up. In addition to McCaffrey, the team is without Deebo Samuel, George Kittle, Nick Bosa and on top of that, it’s being reported that Brock Purdy is dealing with back soreness.
