The Kansas City Chiefs had to cancel practice Thursday due to a medical emergency. It was eventually reported that defensive lineman BJ Thompson suffered a seizure during a special teams meeting and went into cardiac arrest.
Thankfully, it was revealed this Friday that Thompson is awake and responsive. Hopefully, he’ll be on the road to recovery.
During this Friday’s media availability, Chiefs head trainer Rick Burkholder provided some details regarding this week’s medical emergency. He told reporters that Chiefs kicker Harrison Butker played a big role in how the team was able to treat Thompson.
Butker ran to the training room to get the trainers immediately after Thompson suffered a seizure.
Chiefs safety Justin Reid also gave Butker credit this Friday during his media availability.
“Harrison is that guy and he loves all of us,” Reid said, via Nate Taylor. “It’s much deeper than football. In a moment like that, you have to put yourself in action.”
With all that said, NFL fans are applauding Butker for his heroic efforts.
“Harrison Butker is an amazing human,” one person tweeted.
“Good work from Harrison Butker,” a second person said.
Another fan wrote, “Thank you Lord for Harrison Butker.”
Butker received a lot of backlash last month because of a speech he made at Benedictine College’s graduation ceremony.
Not only did people rip Butker for his comments about Pride Month, they had an issue with his message for women. The veteran kicker talked about the importance of being a homemaker.
While this situation may not change how some people view Butker, we’re just glad that he stepped up during a time of need.
As for Thompson, we continue wishing him a full and speedy recovery.
