Actor Glen Powell was aggressively booed during an appearance at a Georgia football game over the weekend – though that was exactly the point.
Powell previously signed on to play football player Chad Powers in a new Hulu series based on the hilarious Eli Manning skit from two years ago.
And on Saturday, Powers and others from the show took to Athens to film a scene at halftime of Georgia’s win over Mississippi State – with the crowd reportedly being told to loudly jeer the actor as he ran onto the field.
Powell and his ‘teammates’ seemed to be representing a fictional school, with the letters ‘SG’ seen on their white and blue jerseys.
Regardless, the thousands of Georgia fans at Sanford Stadium were happy to boo Powell, who was also shown on the jumbo-tron as he stood on the field.

It was announced this past winter that Powell would be playing the role for a Hulu series

The idea from the show spawned from Manning visiting a Penn State walk-on tryout undercover, as he disguised himself so that none of the team’s coaches – other than head coach James Franklin – could recognize him.
Of course, the two-time Super Bowl winner Manning – dressed in a mustache and shaggy haircut – displayed passing ability far greater than the typical walk-on and left his peers and coaches in awe before his real identity was revealed.
The hilarious segment from his ESPN show ‘Eli’s Places’ went viral and it was eventually developed into a Hulu show, which is being co-written and co-created by Powell.

Powell is now the one donning Powers’ signature mullet and mustache for the show
An official synopsis for the comedy reads: ‘When bad behavior nukes hotshot QB Russ Holliday’s college career, he disguises himself and walks onto a struggling Southern football team as the talented, affable Chad Powers.’
Previous photos of Powell from filming of the show published by TMZ saw him donning an Oregon Ducks jersey – likely as Holiday before adopting his Powers persona within the show.
Screenwriter Michael Waldron, known for ‘Loki’ and ‘Rick and Morty,’ is serving as an executive producer along with Manning, Jamie Horowitz and Ben Brown.
The show’s release date has not been announced yet.
