On Saturday, the Oklahoma Sooners lost to the South Carolina Gamecocks 9 -35, one of the team’s most embarrassing home losses in quite some time. The horrible loss had everyone remembering the infamous accident of the Sooner Schooner a few years ago.

In 2019, the Sooners hosted West Virginia for a highly anticipated matchup. The pre-game rituals and festivities carried on like usual. The main attraction was the Sooner Schooner wagon, which was pulled by horses that would run onto the field.

However, once the horses hit about the 10-yard line, they took a sharp turn, sending the passengers and the wagon tumbling over.

This may have happened several years ago, but as Oklahoma is now 4-3 after suffering big losses to South Carolina and Texas in back-to-back weeks, the video is again going viral.

The original video above posted by Pardon My Take was taken down, below you can see the video from 2019.

“That doesn’t even accurately describe how bad it is in Norman. The schooner needs to catch on fire and explode and then that’s still not enough,” said one comment.

“Show me one video that tells a teams entire story for the season,” said another.

“The current standing of Oklahoma Sooners football team,” joked a third.

In their first season in the SEC, it’s safe to say that Oklahoma won’t be running the conference anytime soon.

The Sooner Schooner And Oklahoma Have Seen Better Days

This is truly a sad year for anyone who loves Oklahoma football.

The team has been a powerhouse for so long that it’s strange to see them take such a nosedive quickly.

Since 2010, the team has finished with at least 10 wins in 11 seasons, with the worst record in that time span being in 2022 when they went 6-7.

Other than that, though, the team has not had a losing season since 1988, when it went 5-6, and this 2024 team is teetering dangerously close to that territory.
