The New York Giants decision to bench starting quarterback Daniel Jones was not surprising but what was surprising was the fact that they named Tommy DeVito the starter instead of Drew Lock.
And this was surprising to Drew Lock, as well.
“That’s a question that I might still have for myself,” he told reporters Wednesday. “It was expressed to me that I was going to be QB2. Interesting situation. Not much I can really say about it besides, again, I’m going to be here for him and we’re still communicating and still very good friends, believe it or not. I’m going to be here for him, the team needs to get a win and if we start winning everything will get a little better around here.”
Drew Lock is asked about not being named the starting quarterback after Daniel Jones was benched when he was told he’d be the backup:

Drew Lock has every right to question the decision to start DeVito, as he said, he was signed to be the backup quarterback and with the starting quarterback benched, ideally you would go with the backup instead of the third string quarterback.
Nonetheless, the Giants (2-8) are hoping DeVito can provide a similar spark as he did last season when he went 3-3 as a starter and turned heads by being better than expected as an undrafted free agent.
It’s safe to say Lock isn’t thrilled with the situation, although he offered his support as New York prepares for the upcoming matchup with the Buccaneers.
