Jake Paul and Mike Tyson officially suspended from boxing following Netflix fight

Jake Paul and Mike Tyson now have a lengthy wait on the sidelines

Jake Paul and Mike Tyson have received their official suspension from boxing following their huge Netflix fight.

Last week saw the unlikely pair finally touch gloves at the AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas in-front of 70,000 fans – plus many watching via Netflix – with 27-year-old Paul ultimately winning the bout via unanimous decision.

However, the two men shouldn’t be looking to put their gloves back on anytime soon, as they have since been suspended from the sport.

According to regulations followed by the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation (TDLR), the pair are required to serve a suspension for 24 days after completing the eight round fight, following guidelines which suggest three days rest per round fought.

The suspension may sound a little dramatic at first, but the rules are in place to protect the fighters’ safety.

“Medical disqualification of a contestant is for their own safety and may be made at the recommendation of the examining physician or TDLR,” the regulations state (via MMA Junkie).

“A contestant who disagrees with a medical disqualification, medical suspension or rest period set at the discretion of a ringside physician or a disqualification or suspension set by the department may request a hearing to show proof of fitness.”

Meanwhile the event’s co-headliners Katie Taylor and Amanda Serrano will be on the sidelines for an even longer period of time, with The Mirror reporting that both women will serve a suspension of 45 days.

Paul has certainly been drumming up excitement for his next time in the ring, with the YouTuber-turned-boxer even calling out retired MMA fighter Conor McGregor on his social media accounts.

In the meantime, Paul has also addressed the decision not to knock-out 58-year-old Tyson during the bout, telling fans: “After I’d seen him tired I didn’t want to put too much hurt on him, but I wanted the fans to get a good experience.

“But there was a point where my aggression and violence went away when I wasn’t getting hit. I love Mike.”

The 27-year-old even bowed to his opponent once the fight had ended, seemingly as a show of respect for Iron Mike’s legendary career.
