REPORT: Actor Dies From Mystery Illness At 37 After Starring In Hit Netflix Series

José de la Torre is dead at 37, according to reports.

The actor, best known for his role in the Netflix hit series ‘Top Boy,’ died in his native Spain on December 5. A funeral service was held the day after.

These reports come from Montilla Digital, Variety, and the New York Post, although none of the outlets could reveal the actor’s cause of death.

José had previously shared that he was dealing with a “serious illness,” taking to social media to disclose as much before stopping all public appearances and disappearing from various platforms.

The Spaniard’s last Instagram post is from early June, where he’s shown enjoying Barceló Desalia 2024 in the Canary Islands with friends. He looked healthy then and shared several photos showing him smiling as he celebrated the event.

Multiple Celebrities React To The Death Of Spanish Actor José de la Torre

The revelation of José de la Torre’s death has prompted widespread anguish.

“It breaks my heart to think I’ll never hear your voice again, but I’ll keep talking to you,” actress Luisa Martin wrote on IG. “Love you endlessly, José.”

Singer Pablo Alborán wrote, “I can’t believe you’re gone so soon. I’m devastated by your departure. I’m sending kisses to all of your family and friends.

“We’ll never forget you Jose. Wherever you are, I’m sure you’re wearing a Hawaiian shirt, a killer moustache, and those sunglasses like the ones we wore that day.”

José, born in Montilla, Córdoba, Andalucía, Spain in 1987, had acting ambitions very early in life. He attended the Higher School of Dramatic Art in Malaga and made his acting debut in the aforementioned Netflix show.

After the series ‘ success, he would go on to land a role in ‘Vis a Vis: El Oasis and Amar es para Siempre.’
