Another week, another airplane flying over MetLife Stadium demanding co-owner John Mara bring wholesale changes to the New York Giants.
Before Sunday’s home game against the Ravens, a plane towing a banner flew over MetLife Stadium. The banner read: “MR MARA ENOUGH — WE WON’T STOP UNTIL YOU FIRE EVERYONE”
Sunday’s banner, leading into Ravens-Giants, flew at about the same time as last week’s — just after 11 a.m. Once again, the plane circled the stadium and fans tailgating looked to the sky.
The Giants hadn’t experienced a protest banner since 1978. Now, they’ve had two in two weeks.
The Giants likely will lose to the 8-5 Ravens on Sunday. If that happens, it would tie their longest-ever losing streak — set in 1976 and equaled in 2019.
The Giants are 0-7 at home this season. They’ve never lost eight home games in a single season. And they still have one more home game left, in Week 17 against the Colts. Next week, the Giants visit the Falcons. Presumably, there will be no protest banner flying in Atlanta.
Back in 1978, the plane that flew over old Giants Stadium towed a banner that read: “15 YEARS OF LOUSY FOOTBALL. WE’VE HAD ENOUGH.”
Now, the Giants have experienced almost 15 more years of lousy football yet again. They have missed the playoffs in 11 of 13 seasons since their 2011 Super Bowl championship. And they have suffered double digit losses in nine of 11 seasons (including seven of the most recent eight).
