Caitlin Clark has revealed that her love for the Kansas City Chiefs comes from them being the closest NFL team to her childhood home – as she issued an apology to Philadelphia Eagles legend Jason Kelce.

The Indiana Fever sensation made the successful transition from the college game to the professional scene after being selected as the No. 1 overall pick in the WNBA Draft. The point guard enjoyed a record-breaking maiden campaign in the league en route to being named Rookie of the Year.

The 22-year-old is now enjoying a well-earned rest from basketball after back-to-back seasons in the NCAA and the WNBA. During this break, Clark carved out some time in her schedule to sit down for a conversation with legendary football sibling duo Travis and Jason Kelce on their hit “New Heights” podcast.

During a wide-ranging interview, the starlet explained how she first became a Chiefs fan – putting her devotion to the Missouri outfit down to their locational proximity to where she grew up. Born and raised in West Des Moines, Iowa, Clark lived approximately 186 miles from Arrowhead Stadium as a child.

During an intriguing exchange on the show, she proclaimed: “I am sorry Jason! I am a Midwest kid. I have family in Kansas City and I grew up in Des Moines. That is just the closest NFL team and my dad as a big Chiefs fan growing up. People think I jumped on the bandwagon but I am like ‘no, I was there before Patrick and Travis!’

“We have always been big fans. All the success you guys have had has made it a lot of fun for us,” she continued, as she spoke of her family’s ties to the Chiefs. “We would go to like one game a year as kids with our cousins and we still try to go. We went to the Christmas Day game last year. Arrowhead is a good spot.”

Later on in the conversation, Clark also broached the subject of her favorite Chiefs player as she namechecked co-host Travis and teammate Patrick Mahomes. She asserted: “Obviously Travis! But I am obviously a big Patrick fan. Both of you are pretty great.

“I have actually known Brett Veach for a while. When I was in college, we played the big 10 tournament and it was at the time of the combine. That was how I got to know him and we have stayed in touch since.”

In addition, the WNBA hero weighed up the Chiefs’ chances of pulling off a third successive Super Bowl triumph this year. She added: “”I am feeling good. We are 13-1 right now. That is not too bad. You guys just have that edge, that clutch factor and a lot of people don’t have that. I appreciate that. When you get the ball and need to go 80 yards to score, I feel pretty good.”

In response, KC tight end Travis replied: “Our defense has been saving our a– a lot this year. Let alone our field goal block team. It has been a full team effort this year.”
