Travis Kelce’s punishment revealed by NFL for his celebration after breaking Tony Gonzalez’s Chiefs record

Travis Kelce has been fined more than $14,000 by the NFL for his slam-dunk touchdown celebration through the uprights on Christmas Day in tribute to Tony Gonzalez.

That score broke Gonzalez’s record for most receiving touchdowns in a Chiefs uniform, with the NFL legend using that celebration throughout his career before it became a finable offense.

The NFL categorized the fine under unsportsmanlike conduct, as Kelce used a prop as part of a celebration. In response, Gonzalez said he will help pay Kelce’s fine.

Kelce’s record-breaking score came in the fourth quarter against the Pittsburgh Steelers, a touchdown that helped secure Kansas City the No 1 playoff seed in the AFC.

Gonzalez played for the Chiefs from 1997 through 2008, with Kelce joining Kansas City in 2013.

Gonazlez ended his NFL career with 111 receiving touchdowns, with 35 coming after he left Kansas City.

Kelce makes around $1million per game, with the fine coming as a slap on the wrist with his net worth.

Kelce has only played for the Chiefs in his professional career, with him likely to only play in Kansas City when the day comes that he retires.

The 35-year-old has teased his own retirement in recent weeks with a statement on his podcast, where he said he does not know if he has 40 NFL games left in him.

Kelce has been in the spotlight over the last two seasons for his relationship with Taylor Swift.

His romance has opened up plenty of doors for him, including an expanded fan base for his podcast, ‘New Heights’, and being the host of ‘Are You Smarter Than A Celebrity?’ on Prime Video.
