The wild fires in Southern California has forced the National Football League to put together a contingency plan in case Monday night’s NFC Wild Card Game between the Vikings and Rams is unable to be played at SoFi Stadium in Los Angeles.
The NFL released a statement saying the priority is the safety of the Los Angeles community, while also saying that if it has to, it will move the Vikings-Rams game to State Farm Stadium in Glendale, Arizona if necessary.
“The NFL’s priority is the safety of the Los Angeles community. We are grateful for the tireless efforts of the first responders. Our hearts are with Los Angeles and everyone affected by the fires,” the league said in a statement. “We continue to prepare to play the Vikings-Rams game as scheduled Monday night at SoFi Stadium. As with all games, there are contingency plans in the event a change in location is needed. In this instance, the game would be played on Monday night at State Farm Stadium in Glendale, AZ, if necessary. We will continue to closely monitor developments in the area and will remain in contact with public officials, both clubs and the NFLPA.”
The NFL won’t be able to postpone the game to make sure it’s still played in Los Angeles because of the fact that the game is scheduled for Monday night so the winner will already be the team playing on the shortest rest of any team in the Divisional Round, so it wouldn’t be fair from a competitive standpoint.
The wildfires in the Palisades-area of Southern California has displaced thousands of people while also tragically taking the lives of five people.
Our thoughts and prayers are with those affected by this unfortunate situation.
