The Dallas Cowboys and head coach Mike McCarthy are reportedly parting ways after both sides failed to come to an agreement on a new contract, according to Tom Pelissero of NFL Network.
McCarthy’s contract was set to expire after midnight on Tuesday.
Ian Rapoport adds that the Chicago Bears and the New Orleans Saints are expected to be interested in the now-former Cowboys head coach. Last week, the Chicago Bears put in a request to interview McCarthy but the Cowboys denied them.
McCarthy has spent the last five seasons with the Cowboys, compiling a 49-35 record. He won just a single playoff game with the franchise, however, and spent all season coaching without a contract extension. The Cowboys were one of the biggest disappointments in the league this season, and went just 7-10 and missed the playoffs.
