Beloved Hollywood actress dies aged 95 as she’s killed in LA wildfires

A 95-year-old grandmother who appeared as an extra in such classic films as The Blues Brothers is among the residents of Southern California to have died in the devastating wildfires.

The family of Dalyce Curry—known as Momma D—learned of her death on the evening of Sunday, Jan. 12, when the coroner confirmed that her body was found in the burned remains of her Altadena home, according to ABC Eyewitness News.

Curry’s granddaughter, Dalyce Kelley, reportedly dropped her grandmother off at her house on Tuesday evening around midnight, not knowing that the fires would spread so rapidly. The next morning, she woke up to an alert that the power had gone out at her grandmother’s house. When she rushed to the area to check on Momma D, she was stopped at a barricade and told by a police officer that the home had “totally burned down.”

Kelley was also told to look for her grandmother at the Pasadena Civic Center, where displaced residents were being sent, but she was unable to find her.

On Friday, a member of the national guard escorted Kelley to the home, where she found “total devastation.”

“Everything was gone except her blue Cadillac,” Kelley said.

Before Curry’s death was confirmed on Sunday evening, Kelley told Eyewitness News that she was “still praying for a miracle.”
