Chiefs’ Andy Reid lands on NFL’s coaching Mount Rushmore as 300th career win extends Kansas City’s streak of AFC title games

Kansas City Chiefs HC Andy Reid has done something that few NFL coaches have achieved.

With a 23-14 win over the Houston Texans in the AFC divisional round, Reid notched his 300th career win (combined regular season and postseason). He joins a legendary lineup of Don Shula (347), Bill Belichick (333), and George Halas (324) as the only four head coaches in NFL history to have 300 or more wins. They make up their very own Mount Rushmore.

160 of those wins have come in Kansas City, while the rest came head coach of the Philadelphia Eagles. Reid has 27 career career playoff wins, just four shy of Belichick for the most in NFL history.

This happening in the divisional round of the playoffs is also significant for Reid. He’s now going to his 12th conference championship game, NFC and AFC combined. He extends his streak of the most consecutive conference championship game appearances. The mark is also good for the second most in NFL history behind former New England Patriots HC Bill Belichick, who went to 13 conference championship games.

When asked about the feat after the game, Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes said that Reid is set on reaching a different number.

If Reid gets to 302 games won this year, the Chiefs will have won the AFC Championship Game next week and Super Bowl LIX in New Orleans, accomplishing the three-peat and owning a unique piece of NFL history.

How about Reid’s thoughts on the situation? He laughed it off as just another notch in the old belt. He had the perfect quip.

“I joke with the guys, ‘If you get a couple more, you might be able to equal my weight,'” he said.
