Former Seattle Seahawks head coach Pete Carroll is reportedly the leading candidate to take over as the new HC of a longtime struggling NFL team.

Pete Carroll and the Seahawks “parted ways” after the 2023 season, though the Super Bowl 47 champion emphasized that it wasn’t his decision. Carroll was reassigned as a senior advisor to the team.

In an update, NFL insider Josina Anderson reports that the Las Vegas Raiders are “growing more interest” in Carroll. Two sources told Anderson that Carroll is the favorite to take over as the Raiders’ next head coach.

For what it’s worth, Anderson said that the Raiders also have interested in Kansas City Chiefs defensive coordinator Steve Spagnuolo. “Spags” was the head coach of the Los Angeles Rams from 2009 to 2011 and served as the New York Giants’ interim HC following the firing of Ben McAdoo in 2017.

Pete Carroll coached the Seahawks from 2010 to 2023, posting a remarkable 137-89-1 record. The ‘Hawks won back-to-back NFC Championships in 2013 and 2014 and would have won consecutive Lombardi Trophies if they handed the ball off to Marshawn Lynch at the end of Super Bowl 49.

Carroll was also the head coach of the New York Jets (1994), New England Patriots (1997 to 1999) and USC Trojans (2001 to 2009). He’s one of three head coaches to win both a Super Bowl and national championship, along with ex-Dallas Cowboys HCs Jimmy Johnson and Barry Switzer.
